Empowering 1 million changemakers to restore 1 million hectares of land and sea by 2030.
Across Europe, our landscapes are under pressure, but when different stakeholders unite and work towards a shared vision, transformation becomes possible.
A Bioregional Weaving Lab (BWL) is a place-based partnership that - supported by the BWL Collective - works and learns together to regenerate a bioregion and mobilize finance. Each BWL is facilitated by a Weaving Team that weaves together people, place, and projects, so that the community is organiszed around a common purpose. Across Europe, ten BWLs have been formed already with many additional partnerships in their initial phases. In selected regions, the BWL Collective is also exploring the development of innovative financing and governance structures.
The BWL Collective runs a learning network for existing and aspiring BWLs to share expertise, tools, and best practices. That way, the BWL approach to regeneration and finance is scaled throughout Europe and beyond to enable 50 BWLs contribute to the initiative’s ambitious restoration targets.
The combination of a place-based approach focusing on nature restoration, multi-stakeholder facilitation as well as the exploration of systemic finance solutions for bioregions caught our interest. We look forward to seeing what will be evolving in the years to come!
